We are involved in various aspects of out-of-equilibrium systems. Several fundamental questions are investigated, including the physics of coupled flows and irreversible processes, relying on stochastic thermodynamics, in view of formulating a theory for the flux / force relations of a system in terms of those of its sub-systems.
Using the tools and formalism of statistical physics for out-of-equilibrium systems, we study various transport phenomena, for which at least one quantity is conserved (mass in general). This includes pedestrian dynamics, intracellular transport, as well as emerging themes (tumor modeling; heat transport in building insulation), with links with the Health Physics pole, and potentially with the Energy & Environment pole.
